Cowes Week.jpg - FOR SALE This is typical of the scene on Cowes Parade during Cowes Week. Cowes Week is an 8 day sailing regatta that usually take place in the first week of August on the Isle of Wight. It is one of the longest-running sporting events in UK history, dating back to 1826 when the regatta first took place with a fleet of only seven boats lined up on the start line! Originally known as the Royal Yacht Squadron Regatta, Cowes Week became a regular fixture in the English Summer Season, thanks largely to the interests of George IV. This established its traditional dates, which fit between Goodwood and the start of the grouse shooting season.
